Everyone would love to help, but no one actually takes the time to do it.
Empty gestures driven by self-interest.
Society has conditioned us to look the other way and even use such a situation for our own benefit.
As long as we’re not the ones being eaten.

The most we can say to the struggling individual is a passive
“I’d really like to help you” -
A sentence which really means nothing once you get to the bottom of it.
It’s a phrase we use to disguise our own moral deficiencies and rationalize our selfishness.
